Intensive viticulture leads to a high consumption of water and inputs (pesticides, fertilisers), which threaten soil quality and local biodiversity. Distillation and bottling processes generate CO\u2082 emissions \u2013 both for heating stills and for transporting products that are often shipped over long distances. In addition, waste management (pomace, lees, heavy glass packaging) weighs on local recovery channels. Faced with these challenges, the sector is turning to more sustainable practices: regenerative agriculture, controlled irrigation, renewable energy and lightweight or recyclable
